Painted during my artist residency at Big Thicket National Preserve, this piece captures a quiet section of trail deep within the preserve. Warm light cuts across the forest floor while a pale tree trunk stands in the foreground, marked with dark leaf-like shapes that immediately caught my attention while walking through the woods.

This study focuses on atmosphere and observation — the layered greens, filtered light, and stillness that make Big Thicket feel dense, quiet, and slightly mysterious. Painted outdoors from observation during my residency in the preserve.
