After the Heat
Medium: Acrylic on canvas panel
Size: 11X14 inches
Location: New Braunfels Texas
Painted on location at Fischer Park, this piece captures the quiet shift from day into evening—the moment when the heat begins to lift and the light settles low across the water.
The composition is simple and intentional: a band of silhouetted trees, reflective water catching the last warmth of the sun, and a sky layered with slow-moving clouds. The contrast between the cool upper tones and the warm glow near the horizon holds that brief window where everything feels paused.
Executed en plein air, the brushwork remains loose and responsive, allowing the painting to retain the immediacy of the moment. Rather than chasing detail, the focus stays on atmosphere—how the light felt, how the air moved, and how quickly it all changed.
This work is part of an ongoing field practice—observing, responding, and recording small, specific moments that don’t last long but are worth holding onto.
